Our Veggies for All program has been successful in its first two months despite not aggressively advertising the events in October and November. We’ve distributed more than 800 lbs of free produce, baked goods and other healthy foods to residents through those outreaches.
The program has benefitted more than 200 families through the two outreaches. We served 21 new neighbors in November. We're finding that our food is going to homes that, on average, have about 2.5 people.
The need for healthy food in this area is tremendous. Poverty rates are too high. Access to groceries and transportation are significant obstacles. Earlier this year, Building Block of Natrona President Tricia Ritchie talked to 412 Food Rescue about food insecurity.
Our partnership with 412 Food Rescue remains strong. The organization is a joy to work with and they are very supportive of this program and the Natrona community. The Knights of Columbus Council 2602 also has been a tremendous partner with providing access to its building on Garfield Street. Without this space, it'd be a great challenge to provide this program in Natrona.
The Veggies for All program will continue to be held on the third Saturday of each month - the next event is scheduled for December 15th. We may start to advertise this and gauge community response. We know, at some point, more people will become aware of this program and show.
